Paranormal Debt Collector: From the Start, I Put a Red-Clad Ghost to Work

The protagonist is a debt collector at the bottom of society, burdened by enormous debts. He unexpectedly awakens the Yin-Yang Debt Panel, which lets him see the "merit and sin debts" of both the living and the dead. To stay alive and pay back what he owes, he starts using "violent collection tactics" against evil spirits lurking in the shadows of the city and even cultivation practitioners who grow rich by exploiting others. Other people rely on talismans to catch ghosts; he relies on bookkeeping and his fists. As his business expands, he discovers that the seemingly random resurgence of the supernatural stems from an unpaid account stretching back a thousand years. The heroine, a forensic pathologist who can also see spirits, tries to explain the supernatural through science. As they clash time and again during autopsies and debt collections, they uncover the truth behind the underworld's shutdown.
