Angelica, Come Home

"I... I'm finally back." Dongfang Gui let out a long, deep breath.

When he left all those years ago, the tallest building in the county town was the Danggui Pavilion, not far from the wharf.

Dongfang Gui had been away from home for thirty-nine years.

The day he left was New Year's Eve, and it was early in the morning.

Dongfang Gui remembered it clearly. When the young lad saw him off, the quilt spread over the cart bed was blue with white flowers. His wife had spent the entire night before he left sewing it, stitch by stitch.

He had waited a full thirty-nine years for this trip home.

The closer he got to home, the more his heart crept into his throat.

Scenes from the past flickered before his eyes.
