One Piece: The Straw Hat's Oath

An adaptation of the original Pirate King story, with expanded details and a faithful, action-packed retelling.

Twenty-two years later, the vow made at the Loguetown execution platform still echoes across the seas. Roger's words, "If you want my treasure, go find it," ignited the Great Pirate Era. Countless people set sail in pursuit of the ONE PIECE at the end of the Grand Line.

In Foosha Village in the East Blue, Luffy, a boy with a scar beneath his left eye, lies in a tavern, enthralled as he listens to the Red Hair Pirates tell tales of the Pirate King. This little kid who clings to Shanks declares with all his heart, "I'm going to be the Pirate King!"

During the six months they spend together, Shanks's kindness and Haki plant the seed of a dream in Luffy's heart. But bandits shatter the peace. Luffy accidentally eats the Gum-Gum Fruit, gaining the ability to stretch but losing the ability to swim forever. On the shore, Shanks loses an arm saving him, then places his bloodstained straw hat on the boy's head. "Bring it back to me when you've become a great pirate."

Ten years later, seventeen-year-old Luffy leaves home in a small wooden boat. He plans to gather ten companions, cross Reverse Mountain, and fight the Four Emperors, smashing every obstacle with his rubber fists. "I'm going to be the Pirate King, no matter what!"
