The Legend of the Seeker of Sainthood

Sun Ying, a country boy whose parents died when he was young, grew up boarding with his older brother's family and endured constant bullying. The scars covering his body were proof enough.

His sister-in-law was a shrew, and his brother was weak and useless.

When he was thirteen, the brothers split up their household, and Sun Ying received nothing but a frail old monkey.

He thought that was simply how his life would be. But one day, the old monkey suddenly spoke human language. It was a monkey from Flower-Fruit Mountain, and if Sun Ying wanted to change the course of his life, he should practice breathing exercises and meditation with it, and take a different path. Only, that path was one of nine deaths and one survival.

Sun Ying burst out laughing. "Nine deaths and one survival? Isn't my life right now already worse than death?"
