Vampire: Rise by Feeding on Sunlight

The icy dawn was like countless fine needles, piercing the thin curtains and pricking Luo Feng's bare arm. He curled up violently, a muffled, beastlike growl escaping his throat. The feeling had returned. It wasn't the slow, bone-deep despair of ALS, the creeping freeze of his body, but a sharper, more savage punishment.

The price of last night's awakening.

His fingertips unconsciously clawed at the skin of his arm, leaving several vivid red marks, but doing nothing to ease the wrenching stiffness and burning pain deep in his muscles. It was as if invisible flames were racing along his nerves, making every bone in his body scream.

"Feng'er... run..."

His father's broken final words rang in his ears once more, mingling with the smell of hospital disinfectant and the squeak of a wheelchair. Luo Feng jerked his eyes open. Sweat had already soaked the black hair hanging over his forehead.

He had transmigrated to this world three months ago, taking over the body of a seventeen-year-old boy who was also named Luo Feng, but carrying the curse of his family's hereditary ALS. To stay alive, he had been forced to take a desperate risk and buy a vial of vampire blood on the black market, blood said to be capable of "reshaping life."
