The Carefree Veteran Club Owner Awakens the Merit System

At the Guixu Guesthouse in an old alley in Jinmen, the sign is peeling and the air conditioner leaks cold air.

The owner, Lin Chuan, sprawls on a battered sofa, slurping instant noodles while the sound effects from his game make a stray cat outside jump in fright. Who would have guessed this good-for-nothing would be up in the attic at midnight, combing the hair of a hanging ghost?

"Ding! Host has fulfilled a ghost's wish. 300 merit points awarded!" The System's alert rang out, and Lin Chuan bit down hard on the noodles in his mouth.

Helping a female ghost find her missing child leads him to a clue pointing to the little beggar he saved twenty years ago. Exorcising a curse from an old professor's house reveals, among the incense ashes, the bloodstained clothes his parents wore when they fought evil spirits. The laid-back owner's game controller has been replaced by a soul-summoning lantern, and downstairs at the guesthouse, the cool-faced forensic doctor Su Qingzhu is knocking on the door. "Boss Lin, there's a corpse in the autopsy room that says it wants to see you."
