Reborn in the 1970s: I Made It Big in the Kitchen

A fanfiction based on A Little Reunion

Huang Ling, a timid, repressed factory worker, spent her whole life enduring hardship. As she neared the end, the only ones she couldn't bear to leave were the two children she'd shortchanged for most of their lives.

When she opened her eyes, she had returned to 1978, to a Suzhou apartment block. This time, looking at her eldest son, Zhuang Tunan, pale and gaunt as he prepared for the college entrance exam, she swore she would never repeat her past mistakes.

Reborn, she unexpectedly awakened an astonishing talent for understanding "flavor" and "nutrition."

It all began in the kitchen.

Facing a husband who believed in "blind filial piety" and smoothed things over no matter what, she warmed his heart with a bowl of rice cooked with pork fat and greens. Facing her biased and spiteful in-laws, she rallied under the banner of "doing what's best for the grandson" and launched a roundabout "kitchen defense campaign." And facing the neighbors' endless family squabbles, she used a steaming pot of wontons to warm the years of the whole alley.

From the straitened years of ration coupons to the surging tide of reform and opening up, the little kitchen became the stage on which Huang Ling turned her life around. From a housewife who swallowed her grievances in silence, she became the owner of the famous "Huang Family Kitchen," finding her own worth amid the everyday warmth of life.
