Starships Beneath the Firmament

A D-Rank janitor rises through the ranks by raising ghosts and rebuilding the interstellar order: When the radiation isolation chamber in Section 3 of a starship sounds its alarm for the seventh time, D-Rank janitor Lin Ye is kneeling in psychic residue, clutching a rag in tatters. A green light glimmers in the star map in his left eye. He notices a faint green resentful spirit seeping from the ventilation duct he just wiped down. A System prompt sounds: Yin Energy Conversion System activated. Contain a low-level resentful ghost to obtain energy and unlock the modification guide.

The livestream chat keeps mocking him, but no one notices the dark markings of ghostly knowledge appearing on the walls he has cleaned. When he stuffs the resentful ghost into the core compartment of a decommissioned mech, the alarm turns into a shrill wail. Someone reports that the mechs in Section 3 are acting strangely and consuming psychic residue. As the Yin Energy readings skyrocket, Lin Ye stares at the display. With the starship's class system rigidly entrenched and a curvature crisis devouring order, this janitor at the very bottom swears to become the master of the Yin Energy world.
