Back in the Village to Feast, I Turned Even Dogs into VIPs

A humorous, everyday story about country feasts and rural cooking.

After graduating from college, Shen Lin refuses to join the rat race and returns to his village. His childhood friend asks him to cook for a funeral, ledger in hand, and he reluctantly agrees. As he cooks, the aunties watching from the sidelines complain that he doesn't look up to the job, but the red-oil chicken salad and pork knuckle soup with green beans soon leave everyone amazed. From then on, he becomes the village's top-tier star for weddings and funerals: at funerals, his winter melon soup hides candied fruit to appease the children; at weddings, carved steamed buns pile up like mountains. The proprietress at the village entrance calls for him whenever she sees a wedding car. He's undoubtedly Cypress Village's go-to feast chef.
