Tenderness Beneath the Blades

This work focuses on political intrigue. To protect the state, the empress in the story fears that Wang Shun, whose achievements threaten to overshadow the throne and who is also her childhood sweetheart, may turn against her. She plans to eliminate him, though as a member of the imperial family, she has little choice. Wang Shun understands the principle that a cook is discarded once the game is caught. He decides to enter the palace and face the emperor, having wagered that at the crucial moment the empress will let her feelings get the better of her and be unable to kill him. So he goes to his death to fulfill her wish. Survival or death hangs on a single thought…
