Chronicles of Mountains and Rivers is set in a contemporary city, telling the story of three protagonists with very different backgrounds who unexpectedly become connected due to a bizarre case. In the process of tracing the truth, they interweave bonds that span region, culture and identity. Zhou Shanhe, the "upright brother" in Sichuan dialect, Lin Haifeng, the "cold-faced man" in Northeastern dialect, and Su Yuqing, the "smart guy" in Taiwanese accent, have very different but complementary personalities - one is affectionate and righteous, one is cold on the outside and warm on the inside, and the other is quirky. Together, they uncover the conspiracy and warmth hidden in the fireworks of the city. The story combines suspense, comedy and humanistic care, shows regional cultural characteristics through the collision of dialects, and uses small things in the city to convey the smoke and fire of the world. From a chance encounter at a hot pot restaurant, a negotiation at a Northeastern barbecue stall, to a grass tea party at a Taiwanese night market, the interactions between the three people are both humorous in dialect and conceal the heaviness of life and death choices. When the truth points to a historical mystery that affects the two sides of the Taiwan Strait and three places, they have to make a choice between friendship and mission, and finally complete the interpretation of their feelings for their family and country in the dialectic of "mountains and rivers" and "jianghu".
