A Soft, Soft Murmur

Su Qianqian was once the legitimate daughter of the prime minister's household. Intelligent and beautiful, she was well-read and dearly loved by her father, the prime minister. Unfortunately, after a sudden upheaval, her mother died, and her father was left permanently disabled and stripped of his power.

Su Qianqian went from being the most pampered noblewoman in the capital to struggling to survive under the thumb of her father's concubine and her half-sister. One day, her half-sister Su Jiaojiao secretly pushed her into a lotus pond, nearly killing her. From then on, while fighting her stepmother and half-sister so that she and her father, bedridden with illness, could stay alive, she also had to watch out for the Empress Dowager in the palace. She kept her head down and endured, and with help from her maternal grandfather and the Seventh Prince, she finally lived life on her own terms.

The Buddha said: The fewer worldly affairs, the less suffering;

The fewer words spoken, the fewer calamities;

The less food in one's belly, the fewer illnesses;

The fewer desires in one's heart, the fewer worries.

Great sorrow sheds no tears; great enlightenment needs no words. Su Qianqian grasped the meaning of Zen, moving from lofty ideals to simply following her heart.

Having seen all the world's affairs,

She smiles as she watches the winds of change rise.
