Showbiz: A Director Who Complains About Being Broke? His Fortune Will Scare You

"When we were filming Courtyard House, the entire crew had a budget of only 5,000 yuan. How could we shoot without a stand-in?"

"Filming Journey to the West was the toughest. The whole crew lived rough in a godforsaken place where birds wouldn't even shit. You couldn't even order food delivery."

"How can you film Bright Sword without a budget? We just added an ad for bottled water. What's wrong with Regiment Commander Li drinking a bottle of water after fighting wars all his life?"

Zhang Xuan was filmed picking up a half-finished bottle of mineral water on set. After the video went online, CCTV praised him by name, calling him a model of frugality for the times.

He immediately set the record straight.

"I was scared of being poor in those days! But you saying I picked up someone else's water to drink? That's complete nonsense!"

Netizens: I'm a fan. I just love how Zhang Xuan is both broke and stubborn!

Netizens: Xuanbao, we know you're upset. We know you have your pride.

Everyone thought his terrible movies were one tragic tale after another. Only after people dug into his past did they learn they were advertisements for his personal assets.

The Courtyard House worth hundreds of millions is his private residence.
