The White Dog Gazes at the Autumn Moon

Among the vast forests in the east, a legend has been passed down through generations of forest rangers. Every year, on the night of the full moon at summer's end, the pure white moon transforms into a great white dog shaped like a tiger, gazing toward the cities of humankind.

The Gao family was a prominent clan of forest rangers, and a grassy clearing lay before their ancestral home. Thirteen hundred years ago, the man known as the Headmaster gathered the finest silversmiths in the land here and cast a statue of a white dog, with a name inscribed beneath it.
