I've never met a guy this pathetic.
This all goes back to last year, the summer of my junior year. We were still at school then. Exams in our department were always scheduled near the end of the exam period, so by the time Xiao Mi and I had turned in all our major assignments, it was already late July. Apart from the seniors preparing for graduate school exams, the campus was nearly empty. Our train tickets were for three or four days later, so we had nothing to do in the meantime. That afternoon, Xiao Mi sneaked up to me with her camera and asked, "Do you want to go take pictures on the back hill?"
The back hill was pretty well-known around our school. When I first enrolled, I joined a club, and the older students would scare us with ghost stories about the hill. It was just outside the school and not very tall. There were several Southern Song ancestral halls, their crumbling signboards making them look like haunted houses. There was a cemetery along the path down the hill. On nice days, students would go hiking in groups, but at night, once the construction crew's bright blue lights came on, you can imagine the atmosphere. It was summer break now, and the students had all left. Xiao Mi wanted me to go with her to the back hill and take some portraits.
