From then on, usurping the throne becomes his ultimate goal, though things somehow take a rather different turn.

Minister: "Your Majesty, Yang Chen is a traitor. He intends to seize the throne!"

Empress: "Seize the throne? When rebels attacked the capital, it was Yang Qing who turned the tide. He is my most loyal subject!"

Minister: "Your Majesty, Yang Chen commands his own army and harbors treasonous ambitions. He plans to use you to control the feudal lords!"

Empress: "Hmph! What do you mean, use me to control the feudal lords? Yang Qing is protecting me!"

Minister: "Your Majesty, Yang Chen is an outside official, yet he comes and goes from the harem as he pleases. This is a grave offense!"

Empress: "I let Yang Qing in. Is that not allowed?"
