Great Ming: Secretly Building the Economy, Until Old Zhu Exposes Me

In the twenty-second year of the Zhizheng reign, Liu Mu transmigrates and becomes a low-ranking magistrate in Taoyuan County.

The Yuan Dynasty is in its final years, the realm is in chaos, and warlords everywhere are constantly fighting one another.

Taoyuan County, where Liu Mu serves, is a place no one governs. He has no interest in fighting for supremacy, either. He only wants to turn the county under his rule into a paradise on earth.

In short, he has no plans to conquer the realm. He just wants to make money.

In the second year of the Hongwu reign, the realm has just begun to settle down when a father and son claiming to be merchants from Jiangnan arrive in Taoyuan County. While wandering around town, they are brought before Liu Mu by the constables.

The pair are curious about absolutely everything.

"Why does this county look so shabby from the outside, yet seem so prosperous within the walls?"

"So many people across the realm can't even afford enough to eat. Why do your people have meat at every meal?"

After that, the wealthy merchant surnamed Zhu keeps coming around every few days to ask strange questions.

Until one day, Old Zhu quietly tells Liu Mu, "I am Zhu Chongba. Come with me to Yingtian Prefecture. The realm has just been pacified, and the Ming Dynasty needs talented people like you who know how to make money."
