Driven Out by Liu Bei from the Start, He Still Wants to Scam Me Out of My Coins After Getting Rich

At the end of the Eastern Han dynasty, An Liang transmigrates. Having heard of the benevolence and righteousness of Uncle Liu, he wants to join his service.

But history can't be trusted completely. This man isn't Uncle Liu at all. He's just a big-eared thief.

When he learns that An Liang has no money or fame, can't fight, has no powerful relatives, and can only cook one good dish, he says:

"I can only afford vegetables and radishes for my three meals a day. What use is a cook like you?"

He even lets his third brother, Zhang Fei, hand An Liang five copper coins and send him packing.

Zhang Fei says, "That's all you're worth, five coins. Take them and buy a couple of steamed buns for the road! Ugh, I can't stand freeloaders like you."

Outraged, An Liang heads south to Xudu and takes over a run-down tavern.

Thanks to his cooking skills, business gets hotter and hotter.

Lately, though, An Liang has been a little troubled.

A fellow calling himself Old Cao has been coming to his tavern for drinks every few days, asking all sorts of questions.

"Shopkeeper An, who do you think will rule the realm?"

"Shopkeeper An, what do you think of Cao Cao?"
