Journey to the West: I'm Xuanzang, and I Aim to Become a Demon Cultivator!

"Tang Sanzang, I command you to travel east to the Great Tang and spread the Mahayana Buddhist scriptures of my faith in the Eastern lands!"

"In recognition of your hardships on this journey, take these three beasts with you as you travel west!"

"They are all sinners who, cleansed by the teachings of my Buddhist sect, have attained merit and enlightenment."

"Just like... you."

On Mount Ling, the Buddhas burst into laughter.

The Buddhas were laughing, and Li Wensheng was laughing too.

He laughed because Buddha would not save those lost in their pursuit of immortality.

He laughed because Buddha had made him a pawn.

Reborn into this life, he had long since come to terms with life and death.

Li Wensheng had never intended to obey the Buddhist precepts.

Reborn once, and Buddha disdains me while the immortals mock me.

Then don't blame this humble monk for founding my own sect and preaching my own way!
