This work tells the story of the fateful showdown between the protagonist Ye Jing and the evil ghost king from hell. Ye Jing, by chance, possesses a body that is neither a demon nor a human being. Then he combines Buddhism and Taoism, and slowly becomes a master of demon subduing. Through Ye Jing's process of conquering demons, the work reflects the good and ugly sides of human nature. It also tells the story of the love between the protagonist Ye Jing and the heroine Zhenzhen. After going through many twists and turns, the two finally got married.
