The story takes place in an assembly line from high school to the student period of master's and doctoral studies in college, and even later in work. Most of the locations are Fudan University in Shanghai, and work is also in Shanghai. The main scene is the initial mutual understanding and dependence between two people in their student days, to the subsequent misunderstandings, resolution of misunderstandings, and subsequent small daily companionship.
