Great Qin: E Lai

In 247 BC, Ying Yiren of Qin passed away.

Before his death, he sought out Su Hanshan, the most lethal assassin in Qin, and sent him to Zhao to assassinate his son, Zulong, who was being held there as a hostage.

Su Hanshan found Zulong in Zhao, but did not kill him.

Instead, he asked Zulong to promise him a military post as a commander of a thousand men.

"You did not kill me. What do you want?"

"To unite all under Heaven."

"Since ancient times, the battlefield has been a place where bones are buried. Are you truly willing to go?"

"I will lead an army against the six kingdoms. We will level mountains and fill seas, or leave our corpses buried on the southern hills!"

Years later, after the six realms had been pacified, the First Emperor climbed Mount Tai to offer sacrifices to Heaven.

With his first cup of wine,

he did not honor Heaven and Earth,

nor the common people,

but Hanshan's divine valor, no less than that of the God of War of old!
