This novel draws on strange tales and anecdotes from my hometown, the Changwei region. It focuses on the simple folkways and customs of my hometown, as well as its people's lofty ambition to uphold justice and fight evil. The story spans from the fifth year of the Republic of China to the end of the War of Resistance Against Japan. Its language is at once proper and playful, witty and humorous. Some of the protagonists are gentle and refined, while others are unruly and defiant. Each has their own merits, but they all share a strong sense of justice.
This novel and its characters are entirely fictional. Any resemblance to actual persons or events is purely coincidental. Do not imitate.
