Emperor Huizong gave him the title of Zhong, and he successively served as the living secretary, the editor of national history, and the secretary of Zhongshu. When the Jin people invaded, he was promoted to the bachelor's degree in Zizhengdian. Before going to the army, he supported King Qin's army. Later, he paid homage to the Privy Council and negotiated peace with the Jin people. After the Jingkang Incident, he went to the Kingdom of Jin to serve as an envoy and stayed as an official in the Kingdom of Jin. He was promoted to Tejin, Minister of the Ministry of Rites, and was granted the title of Founding Duke of Hanoi County. In the sixth year of Huangtong's reign, he was killed by the Jin people for plotting to restore the Song Dynasty. After Emperor Xiaozong of the Song Dynasty came to the throne, he posthumously presented the third division of Kaifu Yitong and the posthumous title Zhongmin. Ningzong also presented Shaobao as a surname and gave him the surname Zhao.
