About This Novel

In 1669 AD (the 8th year of Kangxi reign in the Qing Dynasty), 53-year-old Yu Chenglong was transferred to Tongzhi of Huangzhou Prefecture. On the second day of registration, according to the arrangements of the Huangzhou magistrate, Yu Chenglong would not stay in Huangzhou City, but would guard Qiting in Macheng. Qiting is an ancient civilized town with a history of more than 1,500 years. It belongs to Chiting County, one of the eighteen barbarian counties between Qi and Liang. In the third year of Wude in the Tang Dynasty (AD 620), the imperial court established Tingzhou here (it was merged into Macheng five years later). During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, Luo Dengrui, the general magistrate, stationed here to build the city after suppressing the peasant uprising. In the early Qing Dynasty, military yamen were set up to govern eight counties. Because Yu Chenglong is the second-in-command of Huangzhou Prefecture, local officials and people call him "Yu Erfu", and when praising him, they call him "Qingtian Yu Erfu". The location is called "Erfu Yamen", or "Er Yamen".
