About This Novel
Introduction to heroes of Song Dynasty Zhao Kuangyin (927-976), Song Taizu, was the founding emperor of the Song Dynasty. Born as a general, he joined Guo Wei and Chai Rong in his early years, fought in the north and south, and made many extraordinary achievements. In 960, he launched a mutiny in Chenqiaoyi and joined the Huangpao army. He replaced the Later Zhou Dynasty and established the Song Dynasty, with its capital at Kaifeng. During his reign, he used "a cup of wine to release military power" to relieve the military power of generals to avoid the separatist rule of vassal towns; he implemented the policy of emphasizing culture and suppressing military power, improved the imperial examinations, and stabilized the political power; he successively destroyed Jingnan, Houshu and other countries, laying the foundation for unification and the prosperity of the Song Dynasty. Zhao Guangyi (939-997), Song Taizong, was the younger brother of Zhao Kuangyin. After succeeding to the throne, he continued the great cause of unification, destroyed the Northern Han Dynasty, and ended the division of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms; although the two northern expeditions to the Liao Kingdom were unsuccessful, they consolidated the northern border defense. He improved centralization, expanded the scale of imperial examinations, and promoted cultural development; he revised "Taiping Yulan" and other classics to promote academic prosperity. Although his rule was controversial, it laid a solid foundation for the long-term stability of the Song Dynasty. As the core rulers of the early Song Dynasty, the two men ruled the world with martial arts and rejuvenated the country with cultural governance. Together, they started the Song Dynasty's foundation for more than 300 years.
