Every ninja war is a melee, everyone is 1 vs 3, 1 vs 4. Don't over-deify Konoha's strength. Not counting Naruto during the fourth war, Konoha's military strength was already third. During the third war, it was less than or equal to the strength of the two villages of Iwa and Lei.
