The Wanderer's Song

Buddha says, “Lay down the butcher’s knife and become a Buddha on the spot.” The immortals say, “Sever your worldly ties and enter the gates of our celestial realm.” In the Three Realms, among all living beings, who doesn’t yearn for the Heavenly Dao? Who doesn’t long for eternal life? I say, if I lay down my butcher’s knife, Buddha will butcher me. If I enter your celestial sect, the immortals will bully me. I am the greatest demon king in the Three Realms. You expect me to give up meat and take up prayer? The Heavenly Dao is supreme, and I am Qitian. How could I ever live beneath another? The immortals and Buddhas are supreme, free of desire, and devoted to saving all beings? Then why can’t they stand the sight of demons? What good is eternal life without happiness? What does being supreme matter if I must betray my true nature? I roam freely through the Three Realms, command all the demons under heaven, and feast on meat and wine. What could be better? The immortals and Buddhas sit high above, allowing no demons or monsters. All things are playthings in their hands, and the common folk are worthless and lowly, forced to grovel before the demon king. Heaven is heartless, and the immortals show even less compassion. I will fight heaven and earth alone, to win my demon kind a peaceful home. The gods block my path, the heavenly soldiers bar the way. Then all that remains is to fight, even if I’m ground to dust or shattered to pieces. What have I to fear? Today, the Demon King proclaims: the Heavenly Dao is in chaos, the Yellow Heaven wails. From this day on, nothing in this world shall be supreme. Countless corpses litter the ground, immortals and Buddhas kneel, and the Demon King has returned to restore the Way of Demons. Who am I? Listen well. I am the one and only in the Three Realms, the King of Demon Kings, the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, Sun, Wu, Kong!!!
