At the Starkindling Ceremony, Shen Jin had no star, while his younger sister awakened a terrestrial-grade Lifestar. When the City Lord's Mansion tried to seize her, he snapped their token in front of everyone. During a beast uprising, he saw a dying giant beast's final gaze, fulfilled its last wish, and obtained a Broken Radiance. Lin Zhao heard its final words. Only by putting the two together could they learn the truth. Ordinary star-devouring only harmed the body, but devouring stars beyond one's level could burn the soul. To save his sister and investigate his father's disappearance, he destroyed the Blood Furnace, broke into the Academy, and pursued the nine star charts, facing the Star Collectors at last as he defended the Star-Devouring Sea.
