She's Gone Mad, and the Special Abilities Bureau Is Fighting to Recruit Her

Wen Fumeng spent three years in a psychiatric hospital. Everyone there knew she was crazy: she claimed that half the doctors and nurses had no shadows. Nobody believed her. Until one night, a new patient was admitted with an admission date thirty years in the future, and words appeared on his wristband, warning her to run for her life. Only after escaping did she learn the truth: the entire country was covered by a layer of "cognitive shielding." Things people couldn't see had been eating them all along. The insane were the only ones whose shielding had broken, allowing them to see. The Special Affairs Bureau offered an astronomical sum to recruit her. The file noted: There are forty-seven registered seers in this bureau. Average life expectancy: four years and two months. Wen Fumeng smiled. "The first eleven all died? Then I'll be number twelve." "But it doesn't matter. Crazy people never planned to live very long anyway." (This book has no male lead. Unhinged female lead × government recruitment × rule-based horror. Tense and mind-bending, not for the fainthearted.)
