Lin Yue transmigrates into the production line of an electronics factory on the verge of bankruptcy in a parallel world. A non-deletable app appears on his phone, calling itself Capricorn: an artificial soul weapon made by Arasaka Corporation, with maximum compatibility.
He thinks it's his golden finger. Capricorn pops up a message: "Host, stay calm. Based on our data model, the probability of a zombie outbreak in this world is 87.3%. Countdown: 7 days."
While everyone else hoards canned food, he hacks the supermarket's inventory system. While others look for axes, he makes chips using crude methods. While everyone else runs from zombies, he makes entire hordes go limp. All it takes is cutting off their motor nerve signals. Physical exorcism is so crude.
The virus breaks out right on schedule. Lin Yue escapes the zombie tide with Su Wan, a supermarket stocker, and unexpectedly runs into the holder of another chip: a half-zombified former Arasaka security guard. After taking the chip, a new voice appears in Capricorn: "Hello, Lin Yue. My name is D. The thing you have was hidden by me before I died."
From the ruins of the city to an underground laboratory, from an ark base to the command ship of the Purification Corps, Lin Yue gradually discovers that the virus isn't a natural disaster, the chip isn't a gift, and the ghost named D inside Capricorn is hiding a deadly truth about "compatible subjects."
"Full-spectrum broadcast detected. Arasaka's Purification Corps will arrive in 90 days. Objective: recover every chip and eliminate every compatible subject."
Lin Yue glances at Capricorn's countdown, then at the last can of luncheon meat in Su Wan's hands. "Let's eat first. We need a full stomach to run."
