Gu Yan, a third-year university student, and Gu Zheng, a special forces soldier, are twin brothers. While returning to campus and their unit, respectively, they are accidentally dragged into a river by Xuanming, a novice god of misfortune, and their souls are cast into the collapsing Tian Sheng Dynasty. Xuanming promises to send them back to their bodies and reward them if they help the dynasty survive its calamity. After seeing the chuunibyou villain Xiao Jin's "Supreme Empire System" repeatedly bug out, the brothers decisively reject the golden finger and opt instead for storage space and supplies. They are reborn as Situ Heng, the "good-for-nothing alchemy prince," and Situ Zheng, heir to the title of Prince Rui and the "number one wastrel." The older brother opens a Curio Pavilion to make money and stabilize the market; the younger secretly trains troops, ready to reclaim imperial power at any moment. Xiao Jin watches his error-prone System repeatedly betray him, then looks at the brothers across from him: one is busy building an economic monopoly, the other reorganizing the military and improving people's lives. His whole outlook collapses. He had thought he was the chosen one, destined to be a mighty hero. Now the Tian Sheng Dynasty has not only survived, but is thriving thanks to the brothers' efforts: corrupt officials have been rooted out, the treasury is full, and the borders are secure.
