A good-for-nothing from the Way of the Ninja Academy finds a dying black cat with a dark purple flame marking between its brows. After recovering, the cat teaches him to inscribe formations: hand seals are the shell of ninjutsu, while magical runes are its core. He trains his body by day and inscribes runes by night. On the night seven halos spread out, Zhou Lingxiao finally learns the truth: his ancestors were no ordinary ninjas, but high-ranking ninja mages.
But the cat never told him that the Zhou family's ancestor had been erased from history by the united forces of the ninja world.
All the answers lie within the old family scroll he cannot open. The pattern sealing the scroll is identical to the flame mark between the cat's brows.
