Uncanny Calculations

Gu Miaoyan was born with a pair of "Qi-Gazing Eyes" that let her observe people's fortunes, predict their luck and misfortune, and glimpse the threads of cause and effect. When she was six, her biological parents abandoned her at the entrance to an orphanage, calling her a "jinx" because of her eyes. Later, an old Taoist fortune-teller named Chen Xuanji adopted her and taught her the arts of talismans, feng shui, fate-reading, and divination. Twenty years later, she set up a stall called Miaosuantang on an old street in the south of the city, accompanied by Lao Xuan, an ink-black tortoise that had lived for three hundred years. In public, she read fortunes and helped people find their lost cats and dogs. In secret, she dealt with all kinds of "unclean" affairs.

Then one day, a black Bentley stopped in front of her stall. The Gu family's matriarch was critically ill, and none of the doctors they had consulted could help. Someone had pointed them toward "a fortune-telling girl surnamed Gu in the south of the city." Gu Miaoyan looked up and saw a trail of black aura entwined around the visitor's fortune. Its source pointed straight to the ground beneath the Gu family ancestral home. The moment she entered the Gu mansion, she saw the couple who had abandoned her at the orphanage years ago. They were now her "biological parents." More surprising still, the Gu family had a "fake heiress" younger sister who was living it up with the destiny that should have been hers.

Gu Miaoyan smiled. "I'll take the job. But my terms are changing: pay the deposit first. If I get it wrong, I'll refund you in full."

A fate-swapping scheme reveals a conspiracy from twenty years ago. Half of a jade pendant leads to an even more sinister mastermind. And a mysterious government agency offers her a place on its team. Watch as this fortune-telling girl solves one mystery after another and calculates the fate of the world.
