The year his father died, He Bing began having the same dream over and over.
In the dream, he sat motionless on the sofa at home. The front door stood open, and a woman in white stood in the pitch-black hallway outside.
After that, the woman took one step closer every day. The hallway had twelve floor tiles, and the day she reached He Bing was the day he would die.
He Bing tried everything: sleeping somewhere else, or simply not sleeping at all. But the woman kept walking, kept getting closer.
Then He Bing discovered something.
Whenever he faced one of the other dangers that could take his life,
the female ghost would step in. She would kill those things, and each time she did, she would retreat several steps.
For every one she killed, He Bing could live longer. Of course, the female ghost would grow stronger too, and he would die sooner.
The female ghost protected him because he was her prey.
She would not allow anything else to take her prey away.
But eventually, she would still reach He Bing.
So He Bing began seeking out mysterious places on his own, deliberately venturing into danger and putting his life on the line.
He had no choice. If he wanted to live, he could only desperately feed this entity.
