Beyond Forgetting

On the day her older sister Chen Jianing gets married, everyone at the wedding, along with the tables, chairs, and a small piece of land, falls into the sky.

Chen Jiahe stays on the ground to search for her sister. Beyond the sky, Chen Jianing and the other survivors search for shelter and a way home. They look up at the stars, constantly checking the records of those who have returned, until at last they are reunited.

But her sister still wants to go back.

There are people there she has shared her life with, a home she has only just settled into, and people whose bodies have long been dead but who are still alive.

The sky is devouring the land. Travel between the two worlds gradually becomes a business, disputes break out over new places to live, and the people traveling together begin to drift apart, only to gather again as news comes into their possession.

Until they discover that some people are nearly forgetting even the memories of these disputes.

They are being sent on to their next life. Yet no one asks whether they are willing.
