Students Are Forbidden to Date Early

When the class assignments are reshuffled in their second year of high school, Song Tian, the heroine, an energetic foodie who has spent years struggling to scrape by in math, is assigned by their homeroom teacher to sit with Lu Yu, the hero, the top student in their grade, who is cool and quiet and keeps strawberry candies in his desk year-round. The two sign a "Deskmate Noninterference Agreement," but its very first rule is broken right away: Song Tian faints from low blood sugar, and Lu Yu slips a strawberry candy into her mouth.

From then on, he explains math problems to her, and she brings him breakfast. He acts annoyed by how noisy she is, then turns around and organizes her mistakes into a workbook. She thinks he dislikes her, until she discovers that his phone's notes are full of entries like "Song Tian likes to eat: sweet and sour pork ribs, strawberry cake, no cilantro."

They have a mutual crush, and the whole class knows it. Only the two of them think the other has no idea.
