Liu Chen had spent twelve full years cultivating on the main peak of Qingyun Mountain. On his eighteenth birthday, his master, Daoist Qingyun, kicked him down the mountain.
With half a jade pendant and an old marriage contract in hand, he first returned to Liu Family Hollow, which he had been away from for twelve years. But his grandparents, who had raised him since childhood, and his adoptive mother, the deranged Liu Guilan, had all vanished. Dust covered the old earthen house; only the ancient locust tree in the courtyard remained.
With his family mysteriously missing and his master's final command impossible to defy, Liu Chen set off alone for bustling Haicheng to fulfill his marriage contract with the Luo family's heiress, Luo Qingyao.
From the remote mountains to a jungle of steel and concrete, Liu Chen, armed with profound mystical arts, was like a hidden dragon entering the sea, stirring up a storm in this city of mixed fortunes:
A rich family's spoiled young master comes looking for trouble? Liu Chen subdues him with a casual wave, turning the arrogant young master of the Luo family into a devoted tagalong.
The underworld lays a trap for him? He turns the tables on them all with a smile, winning over the Luo family's big sister, who rules the criminal underworld.
His opponents set up business traps and use sinister feng shui tricks? With healing arts in one hand and extraordinary techniques to break their schemes in the other, he delivers face-slapping blows to everyone who looks down on him, time and again.
Luo Qingyao goes from scorn and rejection to having her understanding of Liu Chen repeatedly overturned, and her icy heart gradually melts. Her best friend, Chen Ruoxi, goes from watching coldly from the sidelines to falling completely for Liu Chen after he saves her, silently standing by his side.
Amid the power struggles among Haicheng's four great families, Liu Chen navigates the tug-of-war between his marriage contract and the clans while searching for his adoptive family. Unwittingly, he also uncovers clues about his birth parents:
His origins are tied to a shocking old feud in the mystical world that began decades ago...
