This book is inspired by Princess Jieyou. It tells the story of Liu Qiyao, daughter of a disgraced South Han official, who is ordered to marry far away to the western regions of Jiangfang. Over fifty years, she marries the rulers of Jiangfang three times, lies low amid the chaos and desperation of the age, and diligently masters three martial arts disciplines. She navigates the competing forces of South Han, Northern Liang, and Jiangfang, joining with heroes from the western regions to quell the Mad King's rebellion, deal Northern Liang a heavy blow, end a century of conflict in the west, and usher in a golden age of harmony between Han and Hu along the Silk Road. After accomplishing all this, she lays down her arms and returns home, eventually withdrawing from the world in a graceful retreat, leaving behind only the legend of a female hero of the western regions.
