I have three rules for this job.
First, never leave the night shift unattended.
Second, never correct a name written incorrectly in the handover log.
Third, if a coworker asks you what day it is, just say, “Today.”
I worked the night shift at Municipal Funeral Service Station No. 7 for a year and three months.
There were seven people at our station: three on the day shift and four on the night shift.
Later, I discovered that the three on the day shift had died last year.
I didn’t say anything.
Because if I did, our staffing rate would drop.
