Great Tang: Three Days Before the Xuanwu Gate Incident, I Awoke

Night of the first day of the sixth month, ninth year of the Wude reign.

Venus crossed the sky. The secret report from the Imperial Astronomical Bureau lay on the desk, bearing eight words: "Venus appears over Qin; the King of Qin will rule the realm."

Li Yuan clutched the paper, his palm slick with sweat.

He had just transmigrated. He remembered what would happen three days later.

The fourth day of the sixth month, before dawn. Xuanwu Gate. His most formidable son would shoot his elder brother dead with one arrow, then kill his fourth brother with another. Then he would come to kneel outside the Taiji Palace, sword in hand, weeping as he called himself Father Emperor.

After that: Zhenguan. Abdication. Da'an Palace. Six years under house arrest, ending in a lonely death.

The histories said: "Emperor Gaozu grew weary of governing, and so abdicated in favor of the King of Qin."

Weary of governing?

Li Yuan held the secret report over the candle flame and set it alight.

I raised the army in Jinyang and secured Chang'an. I carved out this empire with my own blade, stroke by stroke.

Weary, my ass.
