The story takes place in the Cangxuan Realm, which is divided into the Lower Three Realms (Qingcang, Chihuang, and Netherworld) and Upper Jiutian (Nine Heavenly Realms, controlled by the Eight Holy Lands). The deepest part of the world is Tianyuan, which suppresses the ancient demon clan. In ancient times, the Xuanhuang Sword Emperor Lin Cangqiong single-handedly sealed away all the demons in Tianyuan. However, he was betrayed and plotted by the Eight Holy Lands under his command, and he died. His only son Lin Fan wandered to the lower world with the Heaven-Destroying Sword Seed and was adopted by the Lin family. This is where the story unfolds.
