A Shuttle Through a Thousand Years

(Publication contract signed) [Selected for the China Writers Association’s 2023 key support program for online literature] [Chinese cultural heritage] [“Discovering Intangible Cultural Heritage” writing competition] [Cultural innovation and development] [Cultural confidence] [Hangzhou silk gauze] [Silk culture] [Song Dynasty culture] A chance encounter left An Ji unable to forget the craft of weaving Hangzhou silk gauze. A few delightful encounters became the clear echo of a culture spanning thousands of years. Through the stifling heat and clamor, they held fast to what mattered. As the times changed and progress marched on, they found a way forward. “Even if it doesn’t make money, this tradition that’s lasted thousands of years can’t end with us.” “If they don’t understand, let it go. There’s no need to argue. We’ll keep doing what we do. Whether they believe us is their business...” Setting out from an ancient Song Dynasty capital, they weave the cool breeze and bright moonlight by West Lake, the wisdom and diligence of working people, and five thousand years of Chinese aesthetics into a song of enduring tradition, one shuttle and one thread at a time, with a lifetime of dedication.
