Humans have six desires (sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch, and thought), as well as seven emotions (joy, anger, worry, reflection, grief, fear, and shock).
Desire originates in the brain, while the seven emotions arise from the heart. Thoughts fade easily, but feelings last forever.
-
If the body dies and the soul is destroyed, but an emotional attachment remains, the “dead body” will become a “chaotic spirit” and bring harm to all living things.
“Chaotic spirits” are strange beings that exist only in the Dream Realm and are born from human spirits. Eliminating the chaos caused by these spirits is the duty of a Grudge-Breaker.
-
The Grudge-Breaker involves seven cases, each corresponding to one of the seven human emotions:
The Nian Niang Case: worry
The Ghost Husband Case: reflection
The Cursed Blood Case: shock
The Dream Weaver Case: grief
The White Robe Case: fear
The Shadow Puppet Case: anger
The Puppet Fetus Case: joy
-
The seven cases are all part of a carefully planned conspiracy. Song Weichen, an “expert in heart-stopping sarcastic commentary,” and Mo Tingfeng, “the Lord of Dust in the Dream Realm,” are caught up in it. As they unravel the threads of past and present lives, if they cannot solve the cases, they will become the victims.
