Returning to ’90s, She Became Famous in Major Surgical Fields

Back in 1996, when Xie Wanying, the daughter of the Xie family, said she wanted to become a doctor, everyone laughed.

“Like father, like son. If a truck driver’s daughter can become a doctor, then pigs can climb trees.”

“I don’t just want to be a doctor. I want to be a female cardiothoracic surgeon,” Xie Wanying said.

Her words caused an even bigger stir among the doctors.

Her relatives in the medical profession mocked her mercilessly. “Do you know how high the admissions scores are for medical school? Do you think you can get in?”

“There isn’t a single woman in the country who operates as a cardiothoracic surgeon. Who do you think you are?”

Everyone joined in, jeering at her. “She’ll probably only get into some third-rate medical college and end up as a health worker in a small county town. You can guess what kind of husband she’ll manage to find.”

After the college entrance exams, Xie Wanying scored the highest in the science track across the entire province and entered the nation’s top surgical program. At the capital’s top-tier hospitals, department heads fought to recruit her as soon as she began her internship.

“Student Xie Wanying, come to our gastroenterology surgery department.”

“No, she absolutely has to join our urology surgery department.”

“Pediatric surgery needs a female doctor just like Xie Wanying.”

Her relatives and friends: ...

By then, Xie Wanying had independently performed the youngest patient’s minimally invasive surgery for tetralogy of Fallot in the country, represented the national cardiothoracic surgery association at an international medical forum, and published the world’s first case of minimally invasive heart valve repair. She was truly the leading female surgeon in her field!

As for the marriage prospects everyone had been “worried” about:

Her senior, a returnee from overseas, was a sought-after bachelor in the capital and changed his QQ profile picture to one of Junior Sister Xie.

A handsome young CEO came to the hospital every day with flowers and diamond rings.

And countless matchmakers had already trampled the threshold of the Xie family home...
