The campus beauty confessed to me. Standing shyly before me, she asked, “Will you be my boyfriend?”
I said nothing. Silently, I took a photo from my shirt pocket. It showed a gentle, lovely girl.
She glanced at it, and her eyes dimmed. “Is she your girlfriend? She’s beautiful. I can’t compare to her!”
With that, she ran off heartbroken.
Watching her retreating figure disappear in dejection, I said nothing. I put the photo back in my pocket, lit the cigarette in my hand, and thought, “Hmph. You’re not even as pretty as I am in women’s clothes, and you still want to be my girlfriend?”
