“Who does the eunuch want to kill?”
“Wang Lu, Commander of the Embroidered Uniform Guard.”
“Has the eunuch got a death wish?”
In the Ming capital, Wang Lu, the dreaded Commander of the Embroidered Uniform Guard, holds the young emperor in his grasp. His commands rule the realm, and no one dares disobey.
In The Grandmaster, he defeats Ip Man, kills Ma San in a flash, and Ding Lianshan cannot last three rounds against him. Starting out as a tea-serving page, he rises to become president of the Chinese Martial Artists Association.
In The Smiling, Proud Wanderer, he kills Tian Boguang, confines Linghu Chong, defeats his master Yue Buqun, and leads his little admirer Lin Pingzhi toward becoming the leader of the martial world.
His name is Wang Lu, the sort of man who has to sample the lay of the land wherever he goes.
In every world he visits, all martial arts manuals end up bearing the surname Wang.
