In the spring of the 16th year of Zhengde's reign, Emperor Zhu Houzhao passed away, and the national destiny of the Ming Dynasty came to a crossroads.
Yang Tinghe, the chief minister of the cabinet, did not like the reforms of the Zhengde Dynasty that strengthened the military and harmed the people's livelihood. He aimed to reduce redundant personnel and rest with the people at the expense of military strength. He also hoped that Jiajing Emperor Zhu Houcong, who succeeded the rule, could return to the glory of the rule.
But Zhu Houcong, who came from later generations, disagreed with this and had his own plans.
When he decided to use the wisdom of Emperor Jiajing in history to govern the country, secure the people, and develop industry instead of giving up reform midway and turning to cultivating immortality and seeking gods, Han civilization truly ushered in his era of resurgence. Not only did the country become strong, but the people became rich, and the virtue of the emperor benefited Yunei.
Therefore, the folk slang phrase "Jiajing Jiajing, every house is clean" became "Jiajing Jiajing, every house is beautiful".
