By a twist of fate, Huang Long killed an extraterrestrial demon called a transmigrator and obtained a gourd capable of refining all things, along with all of the demon's memories.
In the transmigrator's memories, Huang Long saw his future self laboring tirelessly on behalf of the Chan Sect, only to earn the title of "Daoist of the Four Nothings."
In the end, the three flowers atop his head were cut away and the five qi within his chest were erased. Yet even then, because of his humble origins, he still failed to win Daoist Yuanshi's favor.
With that in mind, Huang Long immediately abandoned the idea of joining the Chan Sect.
A sect like that? Better not to join at all!
In the years that followed, Huang Long made the West Sea his base. He used the Devouring Essence Gourd to steadily improve his cultivation, and drew on the transmigrator's memories to create cultivation arts and divine abilities, all while plotting how to attain sainthood.
In the end, Huang Long achieved the Dao by an unconventional path, befriended powerful figures such as members of the Wu Clan and the Blood Sea Ancestor, and created the Netherworld.
He established Guixu beneath the sea, resolving the crisis in the Four Seas and bringing the True Dragon Clan under his control.
He established the Eternal Furnace at the heart of the earth, resolving the crisis of the Undying Volcano and bringing the Phoenix Clan under his control.
