Lin Nan, a high school sophomore, stands on a talent show stage.

He is a rookie contestant who was dropped by his agent before the competition even began, then eliminated from the contest.

Lin Nan walks onstage with a guitar.

Judge: What song are you going to perform?

Lin Nan: South of the Mountain.

The crowd erupts.

Audience: Sounds like a folk song. Folk songs are all pretty mediocre. None of them can hold their own.

Judge: Please begin your performance.
